Virtual Instructor-Led Training for NREMT

One of the requirements for NREMT recertification is a live training component. This can be problematic for responders in remote locations, or simply for those who have overbooked schedules and shifts, leaving little time for travel. VILT – Virtual Instructor-Led Training – is a recertification option that’s growing in popularity for its convenience and ease of use.

The HSI CAPCE-accredited VILT solution is for agencies and individuals who need a cost-effective way to meet those didactic requirements. With VILT:

  • There’s no need to travel. The classroom is anywhere there’s an internet connection.
  • Busy responders don’t need to manipulate their schedules. The VILT modules are offered over and over again at different times in mostly two-hour modules. Students sign up for the times that suit them best.
  • VILT presenters are subject matter experts who bring their unique life experiences to the classroom, including experience in international deployments, military, disaster teams, critical care, research, management, and other areas that add authority to their presentations.
First responder online training

Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) Courses

  • 48-Hour Refresher Program – Complete the live components of the National Registry EMT and AEMT recertification entirely online
  • 24-Hour Refresher Program – A traditional 24hr NREMT-B refresher with topics including Preparatory, Airway, OB/Infants/ Children, Patient Assessment, Medical/Behavioral, and Trauma.
  • ALS – Meets the NREMT’s latest requirement for Paramedics, the National Continued Competency Requirements (NCCR)
  • BLS – Meets the NREMTs latest requirement for BLS Providers, the National Continued Competency Requirements (NCCR)
  • Critical Care – 60-hour program covering basic and advanced topics in Critical Care Transport and Retrieval

VILT eliminates scheduling costs, reduces overhead, and establishes a per-provider fixed cost, helping agencies stay under budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your courses accepted by NREMT?

Yes. CAPCE-approved courses meet national standards and are accepted by most state EMS agencies and by the National Registry of EMTs. CAPCE accreditation means that a CE provider has made an effort to ensure that the product meets the criteria for quality educational design and for effective delivery. You can refer to the alignment of 24-7 EMS Courses with the NREMT Continued Competency Program (NCCP 2016).

What is NREMT?

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) is a US certification agency covering prehospital medical providers. Most states use or require NREMT testing for some level of state certification. NREMT recognizes four levels of EMS: EMR, EMT, Advanced EMT, and Paramedic.

How long is the NREMT refresher course?

There are a couple of course tracks available including the 24-hour and the 48-hour refresher courses. Depending on what you need, there are refresher courses ranging from 8 hours to 60 hours.

Can I take the NREMT refresher course online?

Yes. You can take 100% of your courses online to meet the standards of NREMT. This is why we provide the VILT program, to address the needs of all first responders who need to take recertification and refresher courses from wherever they are.

Which HSI program is right for me?

Depending on the bundle you choose, you’ll receive over 100 continuing education courses from all EMS CE categories and 80 firefighter development courses. We have options for online and instructor-led.

Where can I learn more about my state’s specific accreditation requirements?
